I have a story to tell you. Don’t worry! It won’t take long.
I was born in 1969…
Just kidding! I’m not going back that far.
I’ll go back several years, though. 2004, perhaps? We used to have a wheat farm in southern Oklahoma where we’d graze cattle, and one week in the summer, our whole family (Marlboro Man, the kids, me, Tim, Missy, their kids, and my in-laws) spent a week at the farm so the guys could work cattle. While we were there, we wound up with a whole bunch of beef (not from our cattle; from another source), and when I say a whole bunch of beef, I mean you can’t believe how much. It was a lot. We needed to slice the beef into individual steaks and freeze it, so got a FoodSaver and a bunch of bags to see what kind of trouble we could get into.
I’ll never forget that beloved FoodSaver. It looked something like this, and for an entire long afternoon, Missy, my mother-in-law, and I, with the help of our husbands, sliced up steaks and vacuum sealed them two at a time in FoodSaver bags. It was so darn rewarding; by the time we were finished, we’d filled an entire freezer with ready-to-thaw cuts of beef and when we were finished at the farm at the end of the week, we all took home coolers full and filled our own freezers at home. The beef stayed perfectly protected and kept us fed for months and months and months.
Back then, I used my FoodSaver religiously, not just to package up beef, chicken, and pork that I’d buy in bulk, but for so many other things, too. It’s the best way to store things in the freezer, because it prohibits any air from touching the food—and in the freezer, air is the enemy. Buying family/value packs of meat, then breaking them down and vacuum sealing them in smaller portions, was seriously my hobby for a long, long time. So much more rewarding than needlepoint!
There’s a brand new FoodSaver now. It’s spiffy.
And today I’m giving away three of ‘em!
